Embrace Your Unique Spiritual Journey
Holding space for yourself is essential, especially for neurodivergent folks who experience the world differently. As I navigate my own journey, I’m reminded of the importance of creating inclusive spiritual practices that honour our unique needs and strengths. This post is for all you incredible women out there who, like me, walk through life with a neurodivergent brain. Whether you’re autistic, have ADHD, or both, consider this your safe space to explore how spiritual practices can be adapted to support your journey.
Your neurodiversity is a gift, not a flaw. In times like these, it’s crucial to ditch the societal BS that suggests otherwise. Your brain is wired differently, and that’s what makes you powerful. Embrace it. Own it. (Read my Love Letter To Fellow Neurodivergent Folks HERE) Together, let’s dive into creating spiritual practices that honor the way you experience the world.

Tailoring Spiritual Practices to Your Needs
Spiritual practices are often presented in a “one-size-fits-all” way, but for neurodivergent folks, that approach doesn’t always work. The following is a few ways that you can adapt some practices to suit your unique mind.
Sensory-Friendly Sacred Spaces
Creating a sensory-friendly sacred space can make a world of difference. Think about what soothes your senses and allows you to feel fully present.
Textures: Keep comforting tactile items like soft blankets or smooth stones nearby. When I’m anxious, I find comfort in a cozy blanket and a warm cup of tea, while cool sensations can provide a “reset” for the nervous system if I’m feeling overstimulated.

Lighting: Soft, dim lighting or fairy lights create a calming atmosphere without overwhelming your senses. In my home, fairy lights and a salt lamp cast a gentle glow in my space, creating a cozy and soothing atmosphere.
Sound: Use soundscapes that resonate with you—nature sounds, gentle music, or even binaural beats. Personally, ocean waves are my go-to for finding inner peace.
Scents: Incorporate grounding scents like lavender or chamomile, which can be soothing and help ease anxiety. I also encourage clients to ask practitioners to be mindful of strong scents or smoke used in their sessions.
Practical Tips for Creating a Neurodivergent-Friendly Inclusive Spiritual Practice
Your spiritual journey is uniquely yours, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Here are practical ways to make spiritual practices more accessible, adaptable, and supportive of your neurodivergent needs:
1. Use Visual or Audio Cues for Mindfulness
If silent meditation is a struggle, try using visual aids like candles, or sitting and observing nature. Audio cues like singing bowls, or guided meditations can to keep your focus on something.
2. Experiment with Timed Practices
Try setting a timer for practices like journaling or meditation to avoid over-committing and feeling exhausted (ironically). Starting with short, manageable periods helps build consistency without overwhelming yourself.
3. Incorporate Movement into Rituals
For those who find stillness challenging, movement-based rituals, like walking meditations or stretching, can make a big difference. Moving with intention and breath creates a dynamic spiritual practice that honors your need to release energy in your self care.
4. Adapt Rituals Based on Energy Levels
Listen to your body and adjust your practices accordingly. If overstimulated, go for grounding exercises like breathwork or gentle yoga. On days with more energy, explore deeper practices like visualization or guided journeys.

Integrating Neurodiversity into Your Spiritual Journey
Your spiritual journey is unique, just like you. Here are ways to integrate neurodiversity into your practices and make them more supportive and meaningful.
Hyper Focus as a Superpower
Use your ability to hyper focus to dive deep into spiritual studies. Whether it’s exploring energy healing, mastering a new modality, or studying galactic beings, let your curiosity guide you. I often dive into topics that help me gain clarity and understanding. One client, for instance, used her hyper focus to learn light language and channeled messages from higher realms.
Routine and Rituals
For many neurodivergent individuals, routines can be a lifeline. Create daily or weekly rituals that ground you. This could be as simple as pulling an oracle card each morning or as elaborate as a full moon ceremony. My go-to ritual includes a morning gratitude practice, where I journal three things I’m grateful for to set a positive tone for the day.
Pattern Recognition as a Gift
Many neurodivergent folks excel at recognizing patterns. Use this to your advantage in your spiritual journey. Notice recurring dreams, synchronicity, or themes in meditations. A client of mine discovered powerful messages through recurring symbols in her dreams, which helped her understand herself on a deeper level.
Creative Expression
Engage in creative practices that let your neurodivergent mind flourish. Art, music, dance, or writing can be powerful outlets for spiritual expression. I’ve seen clients use painting as a form of meditation, letting intuition guide each brushstroke. Creative expression can help process emotions and connect you with your higher self.
Community and Connection
Find your people. Connect with others who understand your journey. I’ve been reminded of the strength that comes from community—those who hold space for you, even from afar. Women’s circles, online communities, or one-on-one sessions can provide the support and validation you need. I’ve seen incredible transformations in women who found their spiritual sisters in circles. Community is not just about connection; it’s about being seen and understood without judgment.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” — Helen Keller. Finding a supportive community allows you to walk your spiritual path with shared strength and understanding.

Energy Healing: Your Way
Energy healing is powerful, but it must feel right for you. Especially during times of stress, it’s essential to communicate your needs clearly. If you’re working with an energy healer (like yours truly), have an honest conversation about your preferences - whether you prefer shorter sessions, hands-on contact, or purely hands-off work.
For some, shorter, more frequent sessions help maintain energetic balance, while others benefit from longer, spaced-out sessions. Every modality can be adapted to support neurodivergent needs. If traditional methods don’t work for you, experiment with other forms of energy work. (Read more about Beyond Reiki: Alternative Healing Modalities HERE)
